Supermarine Spitfire. American Users, part three. Canadian users of the Spitfire. Part two.

Some of the RCAF's Spitfire operating squadrons, were the following:
  • No. 417 Squadron: This unit, the only RCAF one deployed in the Mediterranean, replaced the Hawker Hurricane with the Spitfire in 1943 during Operation Torch and kept them  (albeit in various marks) until the end of the hostilities in Italy in April 1945.
  • No.443 Squadron: This squadron received the Spitfire in England and they served through Normandy campaign and Europe until the end of the war. They remained as part of the British Occupation Forces in Germany and were disbanded in March 1946.
  • No.441 Squadron: This unit received the Spitfire late in the war, when they were rebased from Nova Scotia to England in February 1944. They took part in various campaigns through Europe such as France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. They were disbanded in August 1945.
  • No.403 Squadron: This unit transitioned from the Curtiss Tomahawk I to the Spitfire in 1941 as the Curtiss Tomahawk was not deemed suitable for the European Theatre.
With Spitfires of various marks, they served through various British and European fronts such as Defence of Britain, Channel Front, Dieppe, Normandy and the Rhine, before being rebased to mainland Canada.
